Supreme Legislation Committee Youth Council holds first virtual meeting to mark International Youth Day 2020

Young Professionals Account for 56 percent of Supreme Legislation Committee’s (SLC) Total Employees

20 percent of Leadership Positions at General Secretariat Held by Young Leaders

UAE, August 12th, 2020 – The General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) today (Wednesday, August 12, 2020) hosted the first virtual meeting of its Youth Council to commemorate this year’s International Youth Day. The meeting, held on Microsoft Teams, discussed the National Youth Agenda, aligning the Youth Council priorities and initiatives with it. During the meeting, emphasis was placed on gearing Youth Council initiatives towards empowering young Emirati professionals to play an active role in establishing stronger legal and legislative systems in Dubai, as the emirate continues to take steady strides on its path towards becoming the city of the future. The virtual event was part of the SLC’s commitment to offering interactive platforms for efficient exchange of new creative ideas and the development of innovative solutions to the challenges faced by youth. The SLC policies and initiatives reflect its belief that the youth are instrumental in building a more resilient government sector, being the driving force for positive change that is critical for the country to keep pace with the rapid changes, ushering Dubai into a brighter future.

The International Youth Day celebration comes at a time when the SLC is taking advanced steps to empower the youth, so that they can actively contribute to attaining legislative and legal excellence. The SLC’s commitment to youth empowerment is evident in the number of young Emiratis it employs. Some 56 percent of the SLC employees are aged between 25 and 35, among whom 20 percent hold leadership positions. The SLC’s Youth Council, which was established in 2019, plays a role in harnessing the talents of young professionals towards developing a sustainable and balanced legislative system that is capable of supporting Dubai’s comprehensive development. The YC has been launching initiatives of national importance in line with the objectives of the National Youth Agenda.

Dubai, UAE, July 1st, 2020 – Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) announced today (Wednesday, July 1, 2020) the successful and complete migration of its systems and applications from its on premises data centers to the leading technology of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. This development is in line with HBMSU’s pioneering efforts to establish a new educational culture by shifting away from the on premises, traditional model of education in order to raise highly qualified and globally competitive future generations. The advanced digital transformation initiative has made HBMSU the first university in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to shift its on premises legacy systems to a full cloud computing model on AWS. The achievement further highlights the success of the University’s efforts to develop its technological resources and smart infrastructure, which was lauded by the global technology cloud service provider AWS; as a leading model in the sector in the region.

 UAE, 31st October 2018 – Inspired by the wise leadership’s vision and to help improve the competencies and skills of young Emiratis today, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) has announced that the registration for its Executive MBA in Islamic Banking and Finance, a pioneering program being offered in cooperation with a European university and accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education’s Commission for Academic Accreditation, is now ongoing The statement was made on the sidelines of the Global Islamic Economy Summit (GIES) being held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The GIES is also being staged under the supervision of the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (IEDC), in cooperation with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Thomson Reuters.  UAE, 29th October 2018 – Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) announced the completion of preparations for the launch of the China-UAE Conference on Islamic Banking and Finance (CUCIBF III) for the third consecutive year under the theme, ‘The potential for participative economy and financial system: growth, development, integration, and cooperation.’ The conference, set to take place on November 7 and 8, 2018, aims to strengthen knowledge, civilizational, cultural and economic exchanges with China. The event is a major milestone in the consolidation of efforts to support Islamic financing between the UAE and China, highlighting shared interest of both parties to employ Islamic economy model to achieve the objectives of the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative in resuscitating the global economy and direct it to serve comprehensive and sustainable development. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, the University celebrated the graduation of the seventh and eighth batch of learners from the undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the School of Business & Quality Management, School of e-Education and School of Health and Environmental Studies. A total of 396 graduates attended the graduation ceremony at the Dubai World Trade Center, in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, H.E. Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security in Dubai, Chairman of HBMSU’s Board of Governors, and members of the Board of Governors, and Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, chancellor of HBMSU as well as faculty and administrative officials, parents of graduates and learners.

The event celebrated the graduation of 26 learners with firstclass honors degrees, 30 with second-class honors degrees and 42 with third-class honors degrees. This achievement reflects the University’s success in developing creative approaches aimed at redefining the future of teaching and learning through smart technology, innovation and quality to hone qualified national talents and prepare them to lead the ambitious development process.

HBMSU & Paris Dauphine University sign MoU to Cooperate in Islamic Finance Education and Training

  
UAE, November 10, 2014 – Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) and Paris Dauphine University (UPD), a renowned French public research and higher education institution, have entered into a landmark agreement to extend cooperation in Islamic Finance education and training. Both parties will work closely to design programs and initiatives in Islamic Finance tailored for the GCC and MENA regions. They will also jointly develop curricula that will give full credit for courses taken in either of the institutions.

Serine El Salhat, HBMSU’s International Cooperation & Corporate Communication, Assistant Chancellor, and Prof. Arnaud Raynouard, UPD’s Vice President for International Affairs, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a brief ceremony at the HBMSU campus.  The joint venture is timely given the growing global influence and popularity of Islamic finance. HBMSU and UPD provide excellent facilities for masters and research students to specialize in the field. Their world-class curricula and renowned faculty members help learners develop advanced and structured analytical and research skills to work in a wide range of Islamic Finance specialties.

The two institutions will also collaborate on other student and faculty exchange programs and jointly conduct faculty research. UPD’s Masters in Islamic Finance students will present papers before well-respected international academicians in HBMSU’s annual Innovation Arabia 8 conference, where UPD faculty and students can exchange ideas with their HBMSU counterparts and meet industry leaders and representatives. HBMSU learners, on the other hand, will join UPD students in their annual international trips. Since 2009, UPD has been offering the Masters in Islamic Finance degree locally and to other French-speaking nations.
