Conference explores future of Islamic finance in the UAE & China from the perspective of growth, development & integration

 UAE, November 11, 2018 – The third China-UAE conference on Islamic Banking and Finance (CUCIBF III) concluded recently, with the participation of leading economic experts, bankers, decision and policy makers, investors and Islamic economic stakeholders, who hailed Dubai’s great strides in becoming a global capital of the Islamic economy. UNESCO renews Dr. Mansoor Al Awar’s chairmanship

of the Governing Board of Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE)

UAE, 03 November 2018 – UNESCO has issued a decision to renew the chairmanship of Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU), to the Governing Board of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE). The renewed term covers a period of four years and will end on 31 December 2021. Dr. Mansoor Al Awar was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Governing Board by members of the Council in 2014.

 UAE, 31st October 2018 – Inspired by the wise leadership’s vision and to help improve the competencies and skills of young Emiratis today, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) has announced that the registration for its Executive MBA in Islamic Banking and Finance, a pioneering program being offered in cooperation with a European university and accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education’s Commission for Academic Accreditation, is now ongoing The statement was made on the sidelines of the Global Islamic Economy Summit (GIES) being held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The GIES is also being staged under the supervision of the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (IEDC), in cooperation with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Thomson Reuters. Interested students may start submitting their applications for the class that will begin in the spring of 2019.  HBMSU and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), in Barcelona, Spain, have jointly designed the special program to produce future leaders capable of addressing the current and emerging needs of the banking and finance Islamic industry.

 UAE, 29th October 2018 – Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) announced the completion of preparations for the launch of the China-UAE Conference on Islamic Banking and Finance (CUCIBF III) for the third consecutive year under the theme, ‘The potential for participative economy and financial system: growth, development, integration, and cooperation.’ The conference, set to take place on November 7 and 8, 2018, aims to strengthen knowledge, civilizational, cultural and economic exchanges with China. The event is a major milestone in the consolidation of efforts to support Islamic financing between the UAE and China, highlighting shared interest of both parties to employ Islamic economy model to achieve the objectives of the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative in resuscitating the global economy and direct it to serve comprehensive and sustainable development. Dubai Government Workshop signs strategic new partnership agreement with Rochester Institute of Technology – Dubai

The agreement was signed by H.E. Humaid Sultan Al Mutaiwee, Dubai Government Workshop (DGW) CEO and Dr. Yousif Al Assaf, President, RIT Dubai. during the signing, both parties agreed on the need to work closely together to provide academic education and executive development for employees, as well as practical training for students based on the highest standards of professionalism and excellence.

Dhahi Khalfan Intellectual Property Center launches 2nd Intellectual Property Expert Diploma program

Course held in cooperation with Dubai Courts in line with EIPA’s continuing efforts to strengthen UAE’s IP structures

UAE, October 22, 2018 – Following the success of the first Intellectual Property Expert Diploma program, Dhahi Khalfan Intellectual Property Center, which operates under the Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA), announced that it recently launched the program for a new batch of participants which will be held until January 22, 2019 in cooperation with the Dubai Courts.

The 2nd Intellectual Property Expert Diploma program aims to develop a new set of accredited experts in the field of patenting, registered trademarks, copyrights and intellectual property rights, in line with EIPA’s continuing efforts to strengthen the country’s IP structures and enhance the knowledge and skills of national human resources in IP laws in accordance with international practices.

Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC)

MoU signed between MBRSC and UAEU to develop specialised Emirati talent in space technology
Dubai, UAE, June 6th, 2016 – Within the framework of strengthening cooperation links with educational entities in the UAE, the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in order to develop qualified national human resources to work in the space science and technology sector. The MoU was signed by His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of UAEU, and H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Board of Directors at MBRSC, in the presence of His Excellency Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, Director General of MBRSC, along with a number of executive officials from both parties.

According to the memorandum, MBRSC will coordinate with UAEU to design and develop educational and training programs in scientific disciplines related to space science and technology and satellites to enable fresh graduates to meet the growing needs of the space sector in the UAE.
The two parties agreed that MBRSC will create job opportunities for outstanding students in scientific, technical and space projects, in addition to providing scholarships for students in the engineering and information technology colleges.
Commenting on the MoU signing, His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of UAEU, highlighted the importance of these strategic partnerships and their role in supporting and developing scientific research and providing training and job opportunities with experts and specialists. He explained that the university works to strengthen cooperation and partnership with concerned institutions in order to support studies of space science and satellite technology, thus promoting the welfare of the nation.
His Excellency pointed out that: “The national university has the capabilities and resources to achieve the common goals of the two parties, thus supporting the development of the space science sector, encouraging creativity and sustainability in scientific research, developing scientific research programs with the help of international research centres, contributing positively and effectively to research matters related to the space technology sector, exchanging experiments and experiences with MBRSC and achieving scientific integration.”
His Excellency Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Board of Directors at MBRSC, said: “The approach of excellence and innovation adopted by the UAE is based on investing in people. Signing the MoU between MBRSC and the UAEU highlights the shared commitment between academic institutions and specialised entities to meet the requirements of the next stage in the fields of science and technology.
“The rapid growth in the space sector requires the support of the educational sector, relying on the expertise MBRSC engineers and experts have gained, and involving the academic staff in the ambitious development projects and initiatives.”
Praising the role of the university in academic and scientific advancement, Al Mansoori said:  “UAEU is a prestigious educational institution that serves as an incubator for technology and research centres, particularly in the space field. University officials and ourselves have common ambitions and we work together to create and develop specialised, technical and training programs for students and graduates. We also employ the gained skills and competencies in space projects and advanced technology in order to contribute to the growth of the space sector thus building a sustainable economy based on innovation, creativity and excellence.”

About MBRSC:
MBRSC is a Dubai Government entity which aims to promote scientific innovation and technology advancement in Dubai and the UAE. The Centre works on research projects and studies related to space science, in line with the approach of the United Arab Emirates, in its quest to develop the sector and build national academic skills through it.
Among the most prominent tasks entrusted to the Centre are the design, implementation, and supervision of all phases of launching the “Hope Probe” to explore Mars. The Centre is also responsible for all projects related to satellite technology and applications and specialized projects, and advanced technical projects assigned to stakeholders. Also, the Centre provides space imaging and earth station services and support to other satellite services.
