ALHOSN University hosts ADCED’s AKOUN workshop to instill entrepreneurship among youths
Cultural expert & renowned TV personality Ali Al Saloom conducts interactive session
UAE, March 20th, 2012 – The Business Department at ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality, value-based education, recently collaborated with the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development (ADCED) to organize an ‘AKOUN’ workshop to encourage entrepreneurship among youths.
Translated as ‘to be’ in Arabic, ‘AKOUN’ is an entrepreneurship awareness campaign overseen by ADCED and aimed at inspiring and empowering young Emiratis to participate in the private sector. The Council has been visiting institutions of higher education across Abu Dhabi to gain support for AKOUN’s advocacy.

The AKOUN workshop was held at ALHOSN’s Male Campus and was presented in Arabic and English. A highlight of the event was an interactive workshop conducted by famed TV personality and cultural expert Ali Al Saloom from the ‘Ask Ali’ show. Saloom, a cultural ambassador of the UAE, is the creator of the popular ‘Ask Ali’ brand. Students who participated in the workshop were given Workshop Companion booklets which included presentation slides and a kit for creating a business plan.
All workshop attendees received a Certificate personally signed by the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development. The event proved to be one of the most valuable seminars ever attended by ALHOSN students.

“The AKOUN workshop was very effective in challenging our students to set up their own small and medium businesses. The UAE has emerged as the region’s commercial hub due to the exceptional entrepreneurial spirit of its business community. We commend ADCED for lighting the fire of entrepreneurship among our youths and commit to supporting future activities under its AKOUN campaign,” said Prof. Abdul Rahim Sabouni, Vice Chancellor and CEO, ALHOSN University.
AKOUN was initiated in 2009 by ADCED in collaboration with the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development, the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Western Region Development Council, and the Twofour54° Abu Dhabi Media Zone. It supports the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030’s goals of expanding the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector and opening up new opportunities for entrepreneurs to thrive and grow.
Named after Abu Dhabi’s historic ALHOSN Palace, ALHOSN University was founded in 2005 by the Abu Dhabi Holding Company in response to growing local demand for high-quality, value-based educational institutions. It currently offers 12 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs under the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences. ALHOSN accepts students of all nationalities and also accommodates youths with special needs. All its programs are accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
